I’m a research, writing, and revision consultant made of blood, sweat, and (unfortunately) cigarettes. I have an MA, most of a PhD, and three years of experience teaching college courses. I usually work with humanities students, researchers, and educators, but I’m open to helping with fiction and STEM projects, too. I love supporting writers who don’t feel confident about their writing and/or have learning disabilities. ESL writers of all levels: you are very welcome here!

Services and Fees

Open-access educational projects receive 10% off!

  • First Zoom consultation: 30 minutes, free. We will discuss how I can support your project and I will offer you a quote for additional services. This is optional; smaller projects may only need an email exchange–examples available below.
  • Repeat Zoom consultations: $30 per hour, upon request. These sessions are yours to design. I have been asked to help with brainstorming, draft planning, writing coaching, research design support, and more!
  • Research: negotiated by project or $40 per hour. Whether you’re designing a museum exhibit or writing a paper, I can help you find sources, evaluate source accuracy, or even provide you with a brief report on their contents.
  • Fact-checking: negotiated by project or $20 per hour. After finding all your sources, writing a long piece, and revising it thoroughly (something we all do, every time), the prospect of going back over them can seem exhausting! I can make sure your project accurately quotes or paraphrases the original source… and even make sure your citations accord with style guidelines.
  • Revision—negotiated by project or, by task:

Example Exchanges

Q. I wrote a three-page essay… well, I asked ChatGPT to write most of it… but now it sounds too generic. Could you make the tone more lively? It’s due pretty soon.

A. Yes! I can have it ready in less than thirty minutes for $20.

Q. I’m putting together a museum exhibit about Harriet Jacobs. There’s much more material about her than I anticipated, and I’m not sure where to start. I’d like you to do three things for me:

1. Create an overview of the strongest primary resources I should consult.

2. Provide brief descriptions of the ten most cited secondary works on Jacobs.

3. I want to provide visitors with an original experience. If it won’t put the total over $120, can you give me a sense of what other local museums have presented about Jacobs?

A. I would love to—and, because you’re with a museum, I can offer you a 10% discount! I can have it ready for you in three hours for $108.

Q. I wrote a forty-page term paper that references fifteen sources. My instructor requires student work to reflect our original thinking, but she also has very high writing standards… so I asked, and she said getting a copy-editor is fine. Please fact-check and copyedit my paper; if you see a weird content issue, please leave a comment without making a change.

A. Thanks for those details! Yes, I could have that ready for you in roughly six hours for $450. Here’s the breakdown: 10,000 words * .04 = $400 for copyediting + $50 for fact-checking. If that’s feeling too expensive, we could discuss a review—let me know what you’d prefer!

Payment

I accept half-payment in advance, and will not begin work until I have received it. When my work is complete, I will email you and attach a partial screenshot of the result. Once I receive the remaining portion of the payment, I will send you the finished product. Short delays may be occasionally necessary to pay the real person tax. However, I will return projects within a day of payment or offer you a full refund.

Boundaries (because the internet)

If I cannot complete a task I agreed to do, according to my understanding of our agreement, I will reduce the price accordingly.

I will honor my initial quote even if the project takes longer than I estimated.

I reserve the right to refuse work for any reason without explaining myself.

I will not accept:

  • Work which violates academic, professional, or legal codes. As such violations primarily affect clients, clients are primarily responsible for tracking this.
  • Price or task renegotiation after an agreement has been reached.
  • Working in a shared document, or other forms of client monitoring.
  • Creepy behavior or harassing language.
